I’ve been diving deep into this PKM (Personal Knowledge Management) and Zettelkasten Method to take smart notes, expand my knowledge, and make better use of the information I read and learn. I now understand the theory, I know what I should do but I’m stuck on what in my own opinion is the simplest step…picking the right tool.

Is the right tool a thing?

How to define which is the right tool to get the job done? People use all kinds of software, I’ve been seeing a lot of Obsidian, Roam Research, Notion, heck I’ve even seen people doing analog zettelkasten, so which one should I pick? The best answer would be the one I’m comfortable with but it’s not that easy, I want to have the perfect tool for the perfect system and I want it now!

Don’t aim for perfect, just aim to begin

That’s what I keep telling myself. In this uncertainty of choosing the best tool, life has been passing me by, I’ve been stuck for weeks without doing something about it.

Choose what you already know and iterate

I’ve been using Evernote for a while, it works fine for me and I like it, so why I should invest time learning a new tool if I already know how to use one? I even have a curated workflow. I decided I will begin my knowledge journey with Evernote. Sure it lacks some fancy functionalities that their competitors have, but the reality is I will never know how much I need them until I try. This will be a never-ending process, I will improve and learn how to take better notes but for now, I will mess up, and I’m not afraid of that anymore.

I guess my advice here is to never wait to have the perfect setup and tools to begin what you want to do. Work with what you have and what you know and the process itself will guide you.

I’m really thankful to all who decided to follow, I’ll keep working to deliver good content and if you are not already a follower, come on! give it a try! 🙂
